3i loses top US executive to academia

Martin Gagen, the respected head of 3i's US business, has left the private equity company after more than 20 years to pursue an academic career.

Gagen is leaving to study a Masters degree in philosophy and history at Stanford University in September. His decision to leave the industry comes barely three months after 3i hired Philip Yea as its new chief executive.
