3i, the private equity firm, has sold its 25% stake in Scottish information technology group Newell & Budge as part of a deal in which founder Ann Budge will make about £33m (€49.5m).

3i did not confirm any financial details but said it had made approximately three-and-a-half times its initial investment on the deal.
