As if Brexit, looming trade wars, a global slowdown and rising geopolitical risks weren’t enough, Europe is now threatened by a growing rift between France and Germany that could have long-term consequences for the continent’s economy.

The row between Paris and Berlin, over Brexit and whether or not to grant the UK a months-long extension to come up with a plan, was only the latest and most visible sign of a partnership in trouble.
