Aberdeen Asset Management has expressed interest in buying Pioneer Investments' €40 billion US business from UniCredit of Italy, according to people familiar with the bid talks.

The fund manager, led by Martin Gilbert, has previously been linked to the broader Pioneer sale although an analysis of its precise thinking has so far remained hidden.
