Banking chief hits out at Europe’s fragmented regulation

The former finance minister’s comments yesterday echo the sentiments of other industry grandees at this year’s Sibos, where the scope and direction of impending financial services regulation has come under fire

ABN Amro’s chief executive has hit out against the failure to reform Europe’s complex regulatory landscape in the wake of the crisis.

Speaking at Tuesday's main session "Rebuilding trust - our industry's response to restoring confidence", Gerrit Zalm said Europe's politicians failed to "bite the bullet" on this critical issue, resulting in a patchwork of national and supranational regulators.
