The boss of a UK accountancy body has warned that taking enforcement action against rogues too hastily could be deterring fresh talent from joining the sector.

Michael Izza, chief executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, told the Financial Times that accountants now face "the lowest threshold of any professional in the UK" when it comes to watchdogs imposing potential sanctions against them.
