Ackermann opens door to Deutsche Bank merger talks

Josef Ackermann, chief executive of Deutsche Bank, has given the first public signal to potential suitors that Germany's largest commercial bank is open to offers.

Speaking at the bank's annual general meeting in Frankfurt on Wednesday, Ackermann said the bank planned to grow organically but management was duty-bound to shareholders to give "serious consideration" to any proposals. His words will fuel market speculation that Deutsche Bank could be in the sights of an international rival.
