Actis, the emerging markets private equity firm, has appointed James Smith as director in the value creation group, based in Johannesburg. He will work with the firm's portfolio companies in Africa. He has previous experience of working with the firm when he was chief executive of consultant Burlington Strategic Advisors. He is a past employee of Bain & Company.
