Having been accused of being ‘absentee landlords’, institutional investors have become far more proactive in their engagement with companies and in holding directors to account. This year has seen numerous revolts against bumper pay packages as investors make it clear that rewards for failure are unacceptable. But there have been several other resolutions that have stirred up buyside investors.
