There is a reason fund managers are delighted that Emmanuel Macron has won the French presidential election. They are heartily sick of politics.

As keen stock-pickers and profit-spotters, they yearn for markets driven once more by the performance of the economy – not by Brexit or Trump or whether the EU is about to collapse or not. But they may have to be careful what they wish for.
