Aircraft-related ABS bondholders face losses

Investors holding securitised debt issues related to the airline industry may face significant losses following the terrorist attacks in the US, according to structured finance specialists.

A rash of downgrades in the airline sector have caused unsecured bonds issued by airline companies to cheapen dramatically in the past two weeks. Investors holding secured debt should be better protected. However, they might also struggle to recoup their investment, analysts said.
