Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling, who led the UK’s response to the 2008 financial crisis, has died aged 70.

Darling was Chancellor under Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown between 2007 and 2010, looking after the UK’s finances during the banking crisis and its aftermath.
