Alitalia appoints Citi as sale talks intensify

Citi has beaten competition from three investment banks that previously worked for Alitalia to win a mandate to advise the struggling airline, as the Italian government moves closer to the sale of a 50% stake in the company.

Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and Banca Leonardo have worked for the carrier in the past. Deutsche was considered a leading contender to win the advisory mandate, after leading the company's rescue rights issue just under two years ago.
