Allianz Global Investors is to roll out a new performance fee structure across a handful of its UK retail funds to counter the rising threat from cheaper passive rivals.

The asset management arm of the German insurer, which manages some €500bn globally, is creating a share class for five equity funds that will include a fixed 20 basis point fee with an additional performance element of 20%.
