Allianz, Europe's second-biggest insurer, and Deutsche Bank are seeking consolation in continued negotiations after the failure of the merger between Deutsche and Dresdner Bank.

Allianz, which stood to gain most from the proposed merger, told eFinancialNews: 'We will continue to focus on our core businesses of insurance and fund management, and we are still interested in a dialogue with Deutsche.'
