Alstom shareholders approve amended rescue package

Shareholders in Alstom, the troubled French engineering company, have overwhelmingly approved a €2.2bn ($2.7bn) rescue package after it was modified at the last minute to circumvent voting restrictions on a key resolution.

More than 90% of shareholders at the meeting voted in favour of an amended resolution, raising the amount of a proposed capital increase to €1.7bn from the €1.2bn initially planned.
