Alstom unit sale brings disposals total to €2.5bn

Alstom, the French engineering group subject to a €3.2bn ($3.6bn) bail-out by the French government, has received a further fillip with the €950m sale of its transmission and distribution business to Areva, the French state-owned nuclear group.

The deal has no impact on the rescue package agreed on Monday, and brings the proceeds of Alstom's disposal programme to €2.5bn.
