Ameritrade in SEC talks over hedge trade

Ameritrade, the online brokerage firm, disclosed yesterday that it may be forced to restate earnings for the past three years because of a potential irregularity over the way it accounted for a hedged security.

The group said it was in talks with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US regulator, to account for and disclose forward contracts in relation to an investment of 7.9 million shares of asset manager Knight Capital Group,
