The American Stock Exchange has appointed Neal Wolkoff, former chief operating officer of the New York Mercantile Exchange, as acting chief executive. He replaces Salvatore Sodano, who retired amid controversy earlier this month.

Wolkoff has recently been working as a consultant to Amex, one of the largest options exchanges in the US, on market operations and trading-floor issues. His move is effective immediately.
