Banks have more in common with energy companies than you might expect. They are complex. They are crucial to the smooth running of economies. They are regulated. And, right now, they have run short of power.

The problems relating to banks have been well documented. A year on from the depths of the crisis, banks are still reluctant to lend money to companies, particularly in the small and mid-cap area, because of their shortage of capital.
