US-listed Aon Corporation is to sell its UK-based multi-manager operation, led by Adrian Swales, casting doubt on the ability of investment consultants to develop assets in the sector.

The move was partly triggered by mixed results for the division's asset gathering business. But Aon was more concerned about the way conflicts of interest impeded the division's growth.
