The UK’s financial regulator should investigate whether economic data produced by the Office for National Statistics is being leaked and traded on in markets ahead of publication, according to the head of an influential British parliamentary committee, The Wall Street Journal reports.
“I have seen recent press reports which suggest that ONS statistics may be being leaked prior to their official release, and that this information is being used for inappropriate gain in financial markets,” said Andrew Tyrie, chairman of the Treasury Select Committee, in a letter addressed to FCA chief executive Andrew Bailey on March 15.
