Arm Holdings priced its initial public offering at $51 a share. That's at the top of the expected range of $47 to $51, giving the chip design company a valuation of $54.5bn on a fully diluted basis.

The firm provides chip designs to a range of semiconductor manufacturers, including the processor designs used in essentially every current smartphone. Arm doesn't manufacture chips.
