Asset-backed securities bucked the spread-widening trend in 2000 and, as the market grows, they are set to enjoy continued support, according to credit analysts.

While the European asset-backed securities market remains barely one-quarter of the size of its US equivalent, the market has grown strongly this year. Issuance backed by European-originated assets grew by around a third in 2000.
