Asset manager Ardian buys record $5bn private equity portfolio

Transaction comes as the market for secondary stakes in private equity funds booms

Paris-based asset manager Ardian has bought a $5bn portfolio of investments in private equity funds from Japan’s Norinchukin Bank, the largest deal ever in a burgeoning market.

The market for so-called secondary transactions in private equity funds hit a record $66bn globally last year, up from $15 billion in 2008, according to Triago, a private equity advisory firm.
