Amid all the suffering, one good thing has come out of the coronavirus crisis, say asset management bosses. It has shown the value of sustainable investing and active engagement with companies.

This seems at best half right. Stocks with high sustainability ratings have done less badly since the outbreak and in due course may show the longer-term outperformance that has proved so elusive. We shall see. What should not be in doubt is that for investor stewardship the crisis has been a disaster.
