The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (Asic) has launched an inquiry into unusual futures trading ahead of the demerger announcement from AMP, the Australian insurer, last week.

The company is demerging its UK and Australian businesses to create two groups that will be operationally and financially independent in a reverse of its expansion strategy.
