The government will explore selling shares in NatWest to retail investors in the next 12 months, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced in his Autumn Statement.

As part of a host of reforms to improve London's flagging capital markets, Hunt said it was "time to get Sid investing again" — a reference to a 1980s advertising campaign for the public to buy shares when British Gas was privatised.
