UK bank levy raises fears of 'double taxation'

Financial institutions and trade bodies raise fears of double taxation as a result of new £2.5bn annual bank levy

Banks and trade bodies have expressed concern that a new bank levy proposed by the UK Government is to be pushed through without being properly aligned to similar proposals from other countries.

Mark Hoban, the financial secretary to the Treasury, on Thursday published draft legislation on the government's proposed Bank Levy to come into effect on January 1 2011.
