Banc of America Securities is attempting to bolster its hedge fund service capabilities with the acquisition of Vector Partners, a US-based broker-dealer that specialises in mid-sized hedge funds.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, is expected to be finalised in January 2003, according to a spokesman for PutnamLovell NBF, which is advising Vector.
