Andrew Bailey: London ‘weakest’ area as workers and tourists stay away

Andrew Bailey made the comments during a Treasury Committee evidence session on the economic impact of Covid-19

Governor of the Bank of England Andrew Bailey said he is worried about “weak” economic activity in London as he faced MPs’ questions on the economic impact of Covid-19.

“Are you concerned about the regional disparities?” Felicity Buchan, Conservative MP for Kensington, asked the governor. “Footfall is very low in London, property activity is very low in London, does this concern you, given London has been the driver of growth previously?”
