The Bank of England's outgoing deputy governor for markets and banking has used her last speech as a central bank policymaker to warn about the loss of trust in experts in the wake of the financial crisis and run-up to the Brexit vote.
Speaking at the Oxford Union on February 22, Dame Minouche Shafik said: "We need expertise more than ever to solve the world’s problems. But we are in a time where confidence in experts is at an all-time low."
