Bank of Ireland Asset Management has entered the US market by buying Iridian Asset Management, the US investment manager with $11bn (€12.1bn) under management.

The asset management division of Bank of Ireland will initially acquire a 61% stake in Iridian for $177m, plus a contingent of up to $21m based on the performance of the business over two years following the acquisition.
