Europe may not be offering fertile ground for dealmakers but big-ticket M&A is very much in season in the US, where a Barclays banker this week reaped $54bn worth of deal credit in one day.

Paul Parker, head of global corporate finance and M&A at Barclays, was on Monday named as the lead banker on two multi-billion dollar deals.
