Bankers fear repercussions of speaking out against bad behaviour

Banking Standards Board finds that employees in the sector think blowing the whistle could harm their careers

Bankers fear repercussions of speaking out against bad behaviour

Around a quarter of bankers feel unwilling to speak up if they see bad behaviour in their organisations — fearing their careers will be hurt or their names revealed, according to one of the biggest surveys of the industry.

The results emerged from the third annual review of the sector by the Banking Standards Board, which was set up in 2015 to help banks regain the public's trust after a series of financial scandals. More than 36,000 people working in 25 banks and building societies across the UK took part in the research.
