Bankers have been forced to defend the strength of their new issues for the second day in a row as Telekom Austria's IPO followed Deutsche Post southwards into a difficult first day of trading.

Shares in Telekom Austria, which on Tuesday launched trading on Austria's Wiener Börse, promptly fell below the issue price and failed to trade above it throughout the morning session.
