The irony was inescapable last week as Scottish tennis player Andy Murray, an ambassador for Royal Bank of Scotland, achieved a feat that eluded the bank’s former chief executive and chairman just days earlier.
Village is not referring to Murray's latest victory over tennis world number one and Spanish powerhouse Rafael Nadal. Murray, in fact, managed something after triumphing in last week's World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam that ex-RBS supremos Sir Tom McKillop and Sir Fred Goodwin could not - namely finding something complimentary to say about ABN Amro.
