Banks accused of blocking competition from government’s virus loan-help scheme

Fintech founder says there is 'frustration brewing' at a lack of urgency from government in getting non-standard lenders involved in relief efforts

Banks have been accused of trying to blunt competition from fintech lenders by blocking non-bank access to government loan schemes for businesses hit by the coronavirus crisis.

Christian Faes, co-founder and executive chairman of LendInvest, a buy-to-let mortgage marketplace, said the banks were using their lobbying clout in an attempt to thwart efforts to open up the schemes to more non-banks.
