Banks call for light touch to dark pools

European banks have called on regulators to apply a light touch to dark pools, venues which have faced criticism for reducing transparency in the region’s financial markets and will to come under scrutiny from the European Commission this year.

In a report published yesterday, trade body the European Banking Federation said that it was "not in favour of legislating dark pools away" arguing that they "create an artery to execute large orders without having a big market impact".
