Banks demand clarity over Covid-19 relief, dealing with defaults

Banking leaders are urging the government to clarify its plans for the sector ahead of closure of the support measures, expected in October and November

UK banks are calling on the government and the sector’s regulators to urgently engage with them ahead of the state's Covid-19 fiscal lifeline coming to an end.

The Prudential Regulatory Authority, the Financial Conduct Authority and the government are not communicating with each other effectively about the next stage of the banking sector’s response to the outbreak, chair of Atom Bank Bridget Rosewell said while speaking at a City & Financial webinar on 3 July.
