Banks gain vital foothold with Slovak gas deal

Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and Accenture, the management firm, have helped a consortium gain a substantial share of the Slovak energy market through the acquisition of a 49% stake in Slovak gas company Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP).

The consortium comprises Germany's Ruhrgas and Gaz de France, both of whom are being advised by DrKW, and Russia's Gazprom, which is using Accenture. Early on in the process DrKW started to position itself to gain some kind of advisory role on the deal, and the bank was appointed in the last quarter of 2000 to work with Ruhrgas and Gaz de France.
