Banks play FIG waiting game

Banks could provide a sweetspot for capital markets issuance for the remainder of the year, but more clarity is needed from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision before that issuance can come about, according to syndicate bankers and market participants.

There was $937bn (€689bn) of financial institutions group issuance last year, a 24% rise on the year before, according to Dealogic. That rise was a result of banks' need to raise capital after the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy rocked the market, and there could be more on the way, according to bank analysts.
