Barclays has toughened its stance on financing for oil sands and coal companies but refuses to say whether it will rule out new oil and gas funding

Barclays has refused to say whether it will restrict funding on new oil and gas projects, something climate experts have warned is needed to reach net-zero targets.

In its annual results on 15 February, the UK bank said it will stop bankrolling oil sands exploration and production companies, but did not update its policy on financing other oil and gas expansion, which currently allows the practice.
