Shareholders in Barclays and Standard Chartered have added their voices to the chorus of scepticism surrounding a potential tie-up between the two UK-listed banks.

A merger between the institutions has been mooted by Barclays' board, according to an article in the Financial Times on May 23, in response to the advent of activist investor Edward Bramson as the bank's second-largest shareholder.
