Barclays has recruited one of the most senior members of the electronic trading division at rival Credit Suisse, as the UK bank continues a hiring spree designed to strengthen its European equities franchise.

Matthew Cousens, co-head of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Credit Suisse’s algorithmic trading arm, resigned this week and is heading to Barclays, according to three people familiar with the matter.
