Barclays has hired a 23-year veteran from Societe Generale for a senior investment banking job in Europe as the UK lender continues to bolster its presence on the continent.

Laurent Meyer has joined as vice chairman for investment banking in Europe, with a mandate to focus on large clients in France and across the continent. His appointment follows the hire of Ingrid Hengster as country CEO for Germany and global chair of investment banking and the promotion of Pier Luigi Colizzi to lead its dealmaking capabilities on the continent over the past week.
