Barclays has appointed the former head of Morgan Stanley's top-ranked equity research business in Europe, as the approach of Mifid II piles pressure on banks to sharpen up the analysis they produce for fund managers.

Rupert Jones will join Barclays in July as head of European equity research and report to Jon Scoffin, co-head of the bank's research division, according to a statement.
