Barclays PE bucks the trend

Barclays Private Equity recorded its second-best year in 2001, when even the world's bulge-bracket banks lost an estimated $7bn (&euro8bn) on private equity investments.

The firm made 17 investments in 2001, at a time when many private equity investors remained cautious about committing and had to concentrate resources on their existing portfolio companies.
