Barclays has promoted 56 people across its global corporate and investment bank to managing director — the highest rank below senior management at the UK lender — in its annual list of promotions.

Of the 56 people promoted this year, half came from Barclays' traditional investment banking unit, 21 from its sales and trading division and a further five from research.
