Barclays has hired a former UBS executive to lead its private bank in the Middle East, part of a business that group chief executive Jes Staley has flagged up for expansion.

The UK bank has named Steve Klemme head of the Middle East within its private bank and overseas services division. He was most recently UBS's country head for Saudi Arabia and has also worked at JPMorgan and Citi in the region.
